Yes, I did paste a picture I had taken with this camera onto this googled image of the same type of camera. Nostalgia, you understand.
This past Tuesday night, my mother and I decided to go to Barnes and Noble to indulge ourselves in some delicous coffee and reading experience. I picked up the fourth edition of Complete Digital Photography by Ben Long while my mother was looking up tips on gardening in Florida. Remember, I'm new to the "weenie of America" state.
Moving on: I was so enthralled by this book. I had only been in B&N for an hour and I learned a hefty load of information (despite the fact I found a few careless errors between the photo examples and wording). I decided to place with the aperature and shutter speed of my camera. No more than twenty minutes later, I received the e18 error code "Lens error, restart camera." I have seen this before, but I shrugged if off and simply restarted the camera. At least, I tried. For more than an 1.5 hours, I spent being frustrated and upset, trying my best to retract the jammed outward lens. Not only that, but when I attempted to use the camera, it would make a squeaky, clunking internal noise and then eventually beep a few times, only to give me the same error. It would only cut off after it reported E18. Otherwise, if I were to press the "off" button, it thought I was trying to turn it on.
I was finally able to retract the lens. I was relieved, but disappointed once again. The camera wasn't acting differently. I couldn't even playback the images from the SD card. Nor could I extend the lens. The display (both the LCD and viewer) were pitch black.
I researched this over Google and realized this was a widespread problem with Canon and many of their cameras- Including mine. Why hasn't Canon recalled any?
I also noticed the last recalled camera was made in 1998. I'm not willing to wait another ten years before mine is recalled and fixed. The warranty on it ran out in December of 2007- Just a few months ago. Apparently, to have this repaired by Canon, it will cost ~$250. That is half of the original value and utterly ridiculous.
So, I spent a good majority of the night searching for places around here that would repair my internally screwed up camera. I found two places. One was Best Buy. I E-mailed Best Buy concerning my problem. The other was Precision Camera (I believe.) I went to the road it was located on today, but it does not appear to exist. I did, however, find the newly built Super Wal-Mart.
I also stopped by Best Buy and realized that I do not like Best Buy. I was invisible in their store. I hung around for ~40 minutes and I received no help whatsoever. Was I too short? Too ugly? Did I look as if I were twelve and was simply waiting on my parents' return? No, they're just morons. I was probably the only person in that store who was all business. One thing about me is I just don't go to places by myself to look around. I go there for a specific reason. If I can, I get what I want, and leave. Not this time. This time I was the teenager killing time on a Wednesday night alone examining Best Buy's variety of display cameras. This time I left pissed.
I'm not giving up this quickly. This camera is, figuratively speaking, a part of me. I can't count the many times I wanted to take a picture tonight. I simply kept seeing things that caught my eye. I was torturing myself.
Ironically, Dalton noticed my excitement over the Digital Phography book I was reading and ordered it from Amazon. It's supposed to arrive on Friday. It was such a generous and kind gesture. /sigh Perhaps I can undulge myself and learn more about the aspects of digital photography while my camera is in repair.
Until next time...

Now that I have accomplished some introduction clarification, I'm going to take care of a few things and then sleep.
Have a wonderful night.
